Curated by UFV students in the Winter 2026 special topics course, “What’s in an Exhibition?” taught by The Reach’s Curator of Art and Visual Culture, Kelley Tialiou, this exhibition explores the conditions—people, experiences, emotions, and beyond—that inspire creativity and visual expression. The word “inspiration” has its root in the word spire, which the ancient Greeks associated with the act of breathing. They did so because they believed the gods afforded emotions and thoughts to humanity via breath. In this context, the artworks featured in What Inspires You? are a testament to the conditions of creativity as a process of infinite exchange across the realm of human and more-than-human spirit: what is inspired in turn inspires. What inspires you?
