Craig Berggold, Elderly field worker topping Brussels sprout suckers. Aldergrove, British Columbia. October 1983.

In the 1980s Vancouver photographer, Craig Berggold, extensively documented the farmworkers’ struggles: living in substandard housing, dealing with occupational disease and poor working conditions. These are the social and cultural conditions that led to the formation of the Candian Farmworkers’ Union in the Fraser Valley.

Farmworkers and the union continue to fight today for the abolition of the contract labour system, minimum wage and maximum hours of work for farmworkers, and an end to discriminatory Employment Insurance regulations.
