The FVWS was established almost forty years ago. The purpose of the FVWS is the enrichment, excellence, mutual support, and encouragement of its members, particularly as members advocate and support the arts in the local community and region.

The FVWS is committed to supporting creative relationships within the community. Members promote art in the community by hosting annual art shows to display their work and by supporting various cultural events. FVWS has monthly business meetings and meets weekly to paint and support each other in their painting endeavours.

Members of the FVWS display original art works throughout the Fraser Valley. Watermedia includes watercolour, ink, egg tempera, and acrylics. Offering a wide variety of styles and subject matter, members paintings are inspired by local scenes, portraiture, and travels to places far and near. Members continue to enhance their skills through in-person and online workshops as well as through workshops conducted by established professional artists.

A highlight and major focus for the FVWS is the annual Spring Show at the Clearbrook Library. Over the years, the FVWS has also exhibited artwork at the Kariton Gallery, the Mission Art Centre, Chilliwack Cultural Centre, Langley Centennial Museum, Surrey Art Gallery, the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, and The Reach Gallery Museum.
