This year we are excited to invite current Secondary students from the Fraser Valley (Abbotsford, Mission, Langley, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Chilliwack, and Fraser Cascade school districts) to submit their artwork for exhibition in the Great Hall Gallery at The Reach! Submissions will be juried by professional artists and curators. Selected artworks will be eligible for prizes totaling $500!
Students are asked to create artworks on the theme:
Place and Memory: Explore the places that shape us—and the memories they hold
Students may interpret the theme broadly, and might investigate ideas around home, local environments, ancestral places, landscapes that have changed, memories associated with a place, migration and relocation, hidden histories, and many more interpretations.
Submission Details
Students must submit a photo of their artwork and a submission form to be considered for the exhibition. You do not need to wait until the deadline to upload your submission.
The contest is open to all media, including video, and artwork sizes.
Each student can submit up to three artworks for consideration.

The photo of each artwork should be in focus, and include the entire artwork in the photograph.
File formats may be .jpg or .jpeg, .png, .pdf, .mp4, or .mov,
Submission forms should be titled FirstName_LastName_Submission
Image files should be titled FirstName_LastName1; FirstName_LastName2, etc.
Artwork sizes may be approximate.
The Artwork Description section on the submission form should briefly describe what the artwork is, why you created the artwork, and how it relates to the contest theme. Maximum 150 words per artwork.
Students selected to display their artwork will be notified by email no later than April 7, 2027.
General Submission Information
Parent permission slips for artwork display should be secured by teachers or school administrators. A permission slip will be sent to both the student and teacher’s email address on the submission form.
Teachers and students are encouraged to coordinate delivery or pick up of student artworks using the programs@thereach.ca email.
Selected artworks may be dropped off during open hours, 12pm-5pm, April 6-10, unless other arrangements have been made.
Selected artworks should be dropped off labeled with the student’s name and school, and ready to install, with D-ring hangers for canvases, and frames for paper works.
All artworks must be received by April 10, 2027.
