Each year The Reach Gallery Museum invites emerging artists from the Fraser Valley and beyond to take part in our cornerstone programs: Art on Demand and CITI/SEEN.
The fifth CITI/SEEN mural was created in the lane beside “Aurora Rosters” at 2615 Montrose Ave.
Artists Statement
The Milky Way is identified in Coast Salish language families as a hollow object. This mural design responds imaginatively to the question, “Who travels the Milky Way?” Here, Sasq’ets appears in a spacesuit, an interdimensional being finding their way through the galaxy. “Sasq’ets” is the upriver Halqemeylem word that became Anglicized and disseminated as “Sasquatch.” A combination exterior acrylic and aerosol paints were used to realize the composition, which features both traditional weaving and contemporary Salish design motifs.
