This year, Abbotsford Senior Secondary’s Art Activism class studied Indigenous perspectives, knowledge and issues. In specific, the colonial values that are underlying in Canadian criminal laws, policies and practices that have negative impacts on Indigenous peoples. Through collaboration with the University of British Columbia and Corrections Canada, students finished the paintings that Indigenous incarcerated citizens began in healing lodges as an act of healing, learning, and reconciliation.
