In the extended present moment, climate change casts a shadow over every human rights issue unfolding on a global scale. This is the driving force behind Alexandra Sandvoss’s painting series, I want to think about feminism, but I have to think about climate change. In her critical appropriations of historical styles of European painting, Sandvoss’s worries about climate—and their intersections with concerns in the spheres of feminism, labour-related oppression, and late-stage capitalism—loom ominously. In order for us to truly make the world a more equitable place for all, we must drastically reduce harm to the land that gives us life.
